Found this quote from Anne Lamott in her book Bird by Bird: "We write to expose the unexposed."
There's something really challenging and comforting in that small statement. It speaks against the fear of saying something dangerous; it opens the door to deep, intense emotions. It calls forth truth and beauty in the raw and broken places of the soul. It asks me to no longer live in fear but to be willing to create, to get into the mess and to live.
