Summer Conference Fun!

Just a few pictures and highlights from Summer Conference 2010!

Day One: Students arrive in Panama City Beach! I worked registration and got to welcome them all to Laguna Beach. After a fantastic supper, we headed over to the Promised Land for Large Group, where we sang hymns and heard the word preached. The speaker this year for our week was Jeffrey Lancaster, who spoke on the topic of Justification. We really enjoyed the sermons and the worship. After their small groups, we made the obligatory trip to Walmart for the forgotten needs like shampoo and deodorant. When we returned from Walmart and the girls went back to their room, we discovered that the door was locked on both sides and the only way in or out of the room was through the window!

Day Two: Besides getting burned on the beach, we started attending seminars in the mornings. I loved sitting in on the seminars my students attended. During the afternoon, Arkansas played in the volleyball tournament. They were out in the first round, losing to Alabama, but we have some great players!

Day Three: Wednesday is a fun part of the week because we get to eat out at a local restaurant. This year, we ate at The Back Porch in Destin. I highly recommend the Gulf Coast Duo.

Day Four: After large group, we eat barbeque and then had a dance party! In the past I usually haven't attended this, but it was a lot of fun to go with the girls and spend the night dancing.

Day Five: As soon as the week starts, it seems to be over. I was especially thankful to attend Kevin Teasley's seminar called 'Designed for Dignity' which was a beautiful lesson on how the Lord restores our dignity that has been lost in sin. I think that often we get the concept of our depravity, which is a necessary doctrine to understand, but we often fail to follow that through with an biblical understanding of what the Lord will restore us to, even what he is restoring us to now. One thing that stuck with me after this seminar was the truth that as we are transformed more into the image of Christ, we become more of our true selves. The more like Jesus we become like the person we truly are.
